Even thought we would like to, there is nothing much to write about the casing of the nextel 18. A layout with LspCAD calculated 13 litre of reflex volume with a BR/HP 50 of full legth. These Dimensions almost were predetermined by the dimensions of the aluminium fronts. For a little eyecandy the casings were made a little bigger all around so that a black frame around the alimunium could be kept. The exact dimensions were determined with another utility programm. Nevertheless, we wanted to show some pictures of the progress for all of you.
The fronts were placed on the front of the sanded casing with an equal spacing on all sides and the future place for the holes were marked. If one does not have to make pictures of this process one is good advised to use the second hand to hold the aluminium front in place while marking the holes.
Place the aluminium front on the box an drill holes where the screws will be sitting to prevent the wood cracking around the screws. Install the cross-over like usual, fill with sonofil like usual and place the cables in a fashion that you can convieniently reach them.
Slip- and sound-stoppers were found at the local hardware store and glued to the bottom of the casing.
At the rear terminal the cables can be connected. In order to prevent a wrong connection the terminal as well has red and black rings.
The Nextel 18 can be put into a shelf or ontop of a stand. The one on the picture below was made from some MDF boards and lacquered with the same black lacquer as the Netxtel 18. With this easy trick the NExtel 18 became a floorstanding speaker.
